Create Cycle Lanes Around Maidenhead For Safety, Health and Pollution Benefits

We the undersigned petition the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead to Create Cycle Lanes Around Maidenhead For Safety, Health and Pollution Benefits

Since lockdown began, an incredible demand for cycling has occurred, people are taking the plunge and trying out cycling for either the first time or since they were young, also introducing their children to cycling. One of the main reasons there has been more cycling is because of quieter roads making it easier for people to cycle. To make sure we continue to have people cycling, we need to introduce cycling lanes. This means: Less cyclist being injured or dying caused by cars, Reassurance to drivers and cyclists that there is a designated road space for cyclists, Confidence for the cyclist on the roads and less fear, Reduced pollution on the roads, Improved fitness, Low cost to create. One of the main reasons people do not cycle is fear of the road. With the development of the new Braywick leisure Centre this is a perfect time to invest in cycling lanes. Maidenhead train station now has an extremely large bike locking area which means we are expecting more cyclists. Why are we trying to get people fit and cycling when we aren’t even providing cycling lanes to accommodate them safely?
