Protect open spaces and keep "adopted" land clear of development
The Royal Borough is receiving planning applications on a
regular basis from developers who want to build on small parcels of
open space that have been “adopted” as public highway.
Residents often find these parcels of land (which they consider to
be "public" or "council" owned) auctioned off to the highest bidder
who then makes a speculative planning application on the
land.
The Council must meet its obligations under the Highways Act 1980
and not permit the obstruction of adopted highway. In particular
the Royal Borough must act now to:
• Publicise Its desire to enforce the law relating to the
obstruction of adopted highways; and
• Ensure that all new planning applications are checked to
ensure that they do not obstruct the public highway.
