Urgently upgrade the existing Zebra crossings on Maidenhead Road adjacent to the Parsonage Lane/Mill Lane mini roundabout to Toucan crossings; also to introduce traffic calming measures and reduce the speed limit
In the last seven months there have been two shocking collisions
involving children – one involving a young cyclist on the
roundabout in September 2020 and most recently a young pedestrian
on the zebra crossing to the west of the roundabout on 4 March
2021. Residents whose homes overlook the roundabout witness
frequent ‘near miss’ accidents and have been calling
for action to make this crossing and junction safer for
years.
The roundabout has long been identified as a cycle accident
blackspot. Of Berkshire's 16 worst blackspots for cyclists, data
collated from police traffic records confirmed this roundabout is
third on the list.
The RBWM Cycling Action Plan (2018-28) identified upgrading the
current zebra crossings west of the roundabout to toucan controlled
crossings for pedestrians and cyclists as a ‘high
priority’ with a ‘high impact’ for safety.
£67,000 was allocated for this to be implemented in the
2018/2019 financial year, yet three years later the upgrade still
has not happened.
