Create a Residents’ Budget of up to £1M that is available for projects and priorities that are voted on by residents of the Royal Borough.

We the undersigned petition the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead to Create a Residents’ Budget of up to £1M that is available for projects and priorities that are voted on by residents of the Royal Borough.

By giving residents the power to choose which services or projects that receive funding RBWM will reconnect with many local people who feel that the Council does not serve them or their community. Residents from all walks of life and all communities can get involved through a simple online questionnaire that asks where the Residents’ Budget should be spent in their area. A paper-based version can be made available at libraries too.

The Residents’ Budget should be split by area for example Windsor, Maidenhead, Ascot, Wraysbury/ Datchet and Coookham/ Hurley & Walthams. Categories to be voted on could include roads, pavements, street cleaning, sports facilities, play parks, climate change etc. but residents could also include a specific local project to receive funding in their own area e.g., a play park in Sunninghill or a senior citizens café in Windsor.

RBWM has previously operated participatory budget schemes like this and seen positive outcomes for both the Council and its’ residents. Resident directed investment will not be something that’s completely new, but it will be something that can create great outcomes for residents of the Royal Borough.
