Children who attend Oldfield school (plus other primary schools in the area) do not have an obvious choice when applying for secondary schools. The area is the far side of the majority of catchment areas, therefore effectively excluding us from the likes of Newlands and Holyport College (as examples). It means that families have to travel a fair distance to attend a secondary school and children do not end up attending these schools with established friendships they have made at primary school.

Further to this, we believe that the massive increase in flats being built in the area will make this situation even worse, with increased numbers of children seeking places at the same number of secondary schools. We believe that provision of a new secondary school needs to be made as a matter of urgency.
