Reconsider their decision to remove the traffic lights at the Vansittart Road/ Clarence Road junction and to allow their continued use

We the undersigned petition the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead to reconsider their decision to remove the traffic lights at the Vansittart Road/ Clarence Road junction and to allow their continued use.

These traffic lights were installed after a local campaign was won on the basis of safety to local people. The junction is used by many people of different ages who cross the road (often both ways) either on foot or on bikes. They use it to get to local schools, Clarence Road Medical Centre, the recreation grounds as well as the walk through to other parts of town. Many journeys are made by school pupils, parents with young children as well as adults of different ages including the elderly (some from Viscount Court).
The junction is used by traffic coming from four different directions, all of which pose a significant threat to the safety of those not in cars. These lights have ensured a higher level of safety and particularly so as traffic levels and speeds have risen over recent years. Their retention is fundamental to the safety of our local population, particularly as the crossing is used by so many and at extremely busy times of days. Traffic lights remain the best option.
