We the undersigned petition the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead to retain all the land at Ray Mill Road East, Maidenhead, currently designated as public open space, under council ownership and ensure that the majority of the land remains so designated and incorporates nature as an integral feature for the benefit of future generations

RBWM don’t sell designated public open space to private developers.
Maidenhead’s urban wild green spaces are precious community resources and must be protected for the benefit of future generations.
Living near natural areas: substantially reduces the risk of many diseases; improves mental health and promotes social cohesion; reduces crime; reduces pressure on our strained health service and provides lasting, multiple benefits to the economy.
Ray Mill Road East is unique as it is home to the only large migratory population of toads in RBWM. Toads are in decline nationally and are classified as a “priority species. ” “Toad patrol” volunteers at Ray Mill Road East registered toad crossing witnessed more than 1300 migrating over several nights this year. To lose this wildlife spectacle in the heart of our town will be a great loss to us and future generations.
We call on RBWM to incorporate nature as an integral feature in any development on the field at Ray Mill Road East and invest in the growth and recovery of nature as a major part of our future health, wealth and security.
All our lives are better when they’re a bit wild.
