Designate the Poundfield area in Cookham, including land adjacent to the Nursery School, as a Local Green Space in the new Local Plan
The site comprises some 15 acres of fields to the north and west
of The Pound. It constitutes the only green space between the Moor
and Bradcutts Lane at the western end of Cookham Rise and provides
an important link between the developed part of the village around
the station and the countryside and Green Belt to the north. It is,
thus, a crucial green space which is part of the fundamental
character of Cookham
Recently, the Borough’s Housing Site Assessments document of
February 2014 rejected Poundfield, including the land adjacent to
the Nursery School, as an area for development with the following
comment: “Potential for use to change limited: Important open
space for setting of conservation area and historic setting of
Cookham Village. Development here would go against the intentions
of the adopted Cookham Village Design Statement and would be
contrary to the wishes of residents.”
The site is in the heart of Cookham and much appreciated not only
by the local community but by visitors. Developing it would
radically alter the character of the village and our request is
directed to safeguarding Cookham’s essential character.
